Hi! Hello! and How Do You Do? My name is Chaela and I'm happy to welcome you. I have been a part of the Children’s Center of Austin since 2004. 18 years ago, while attending U.T., I had a beautiful daughter who needed childcare. I began working part-time at CCOA in the evenings so my daughter could attend. My career path was leading me toward being a College Math Professor, but I was offered a Pre-K teaching position at CCOA and fell in love with early childhood education. One of my most important goals in life is to be happy. Guiding teachers, families, and students to love teaching and learning makes me happy. Being a role model and encouraging children to be kind, confident, and great human beings turns out to be my calling. My daughter, Deja, began her journey with education as a CCOA student and is a great representation of the jumpstart in life that an early childhood education can provide. I am excited to help make Westlake the best it can be as well as provide guidance and support to our teachers and families. As we spend our upcoming CCOA years together, I look forward to being embraced into the CCOA Westlake community.

Hi, I’m Mariela! I am originally from Plainview, TX where I graduated high school in 2011 and soon after began working at the local CDC. I had hands-on experience with all age groups while working there, but the majority of the time I was helping in the Preschool classrooms. In mid-2014 I moved to Austin and took a break from teaching. I quickly realized that working with children was what I wanted to do. I reentered the field in early 2015 as an infant teacher. In 2016 I found The Children's Center of Austin and loved it immediately. I worked as a PreK teacher for two years before moving to our Dinos Afterschool Program. As the Dinos teacher, I was in all the classrooms supporting the team and sometimes even leading classes. In 2021, I was given the opportunity to move up in the company as the Curriculum Coordinator! I love planning fun and exciting activities for your children to participate in! I’m so happy to have found CCOA and I’m excited to continue to make it an exciting time for you and your children.
A few things about me: I am Salvadoran. I was born in Los Angeles but grew up in Plainview. I have three sisters and one brother. I live with my 8-year-old pitbull, Winston. In my spare time, I like to relax at home, watching tv or listening to music - Classic Rock and Harry Styles are some of my favorites!
